Appendix D

Privacy Policy

The short version: this site does not ask for your name, email, or account information. There are no accounts, lead forms, or newsletter sign-ups. Analytics, affiliate services, and hosting logs still process the limited technical data described below.

Analytics

Vent & Valve uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site gets used: which pages people read, roughly where visitors come from, and which guides lead people to useful gear. GA4 sets cookies in your browser and collects usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device type, and browser. We configure page locations without arbitrary query strings or fragments and reduce external referrers to their site origin before sending the page view. Common campaign-attribution parameters, such as validated UTM tags and Google click identifiers, can remain so traffic sources are measured; other query parameters are removed. Google processes this data on our behalf. We use aggregate reports and do not collect account or login information because the site has no user accounts.

We also use a cookieless first-party page-flow counter. It stores a random identifier and page sequence in your browser's session storage for the current tab. The counter records the page path, sequence, device class, broad country, and the hostname of an external referring site. It does not store the request IP, full referrer, URL query string, campaign parameters, region, or city. The identifier is not shared across tabs and is not tied to a name, email address, or account.

You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or block analytics cookies in your browser settings. The site works fine either way.

Affiliate cookies

When you click a product link on this site, you are forwarded to Amazon with our affiliate tag attached. Amazon then sets cookies in your browser so qualifying purchases can be credited to this site. Those cookies belong to Amazon and are governed by the Amazon Privacy Notice. We never see what you buy, who you are, or anything about your Amazon account. We see only anonymous totals. More detail is on the affiliate disclosure page.

What we do not collect

  • No account, profile, lead-form, or newsletter data. The site has no forms that ask for it.
  • No selling or sharing of data with advertisers.
  • No third-party ad networks and no ad-targeting cookies of our own.
  • No email lists. If that ever changes, it will be opt-in and this page will say so.
  • No first-party tracking that follows you off the site. Amazon and Google handle data under their own policies as described above.

Hosting logs

Like nearly every website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) keeps standard server logs for security and performance. These can include IP addresses and request details, retained briefly and used to keep the site fast and to block abuse. We do not use these logs to identify visitors, and we have no interest in trying.

Changes to this policy

If the site's data practices change, this page changes with them, along with the date below. No silent updates.
